Musicians for a Cause
When Dave Bastien found himself down-sized from his career as a high-tech executive, he thought about what was really important to him, and how he could use his life to make a difference in the world. He founded Musicians for a Cause. Musicians for a Cause pulls together singers, songwriters and musicians to bring awareness to the causes [...]
Music therapy
We always knew it was good for us, now it's official. Music is therapy. Scientists are looking at how music can help relieve pain and depression. From the BBC article: By considering elements of a song's rhythm patterns, melodic range, lyrics or pitch, the team believe music could one day be used to help regulate a patient's [...]
Traveling street music
Street music is awesome. Traveling street music is awesome times 2. Just last Friday Portlanders were blessed with the rhythmic sounds of Ande Marimba, a music group traveling from Santa Fe, New Mexico. They played on an open street corner and people gathered to listen, dance and be uplifted. Awesome. Here's a short video:
The Bird and The Bee
Okay, these guys are seriously good. All I know is I was in a coffeeshop and all of a sudden I found myself singing along - loudly and tapping my foot with feeling. "The Bird and the Bee? Emma and the Aristocrats

Ashleigh Flynn was cruising around the venue with a little paper crown on her head, celebrating her girlfriend's birthday, and talking with everyone. Her beautiful energy accompanied her on stage where she sang everything from Michael Jackson's "Billie Jean" to "Let the Circle be Unbroken," [...]

Didjeridu
Walking in Portland's downtown area I found myself enjoying the aboriginal sounds of Jake Duncan playing the didjeridu. Not only does this fabulous instrument sound wonderfully different than most, it also looks wonderfully different. Jake's been playing this awesome instrument since he was a kid. He travels all over sharing his music at [...]
MarchFourth Marching Band
Sitting in a community soaking pool in Portland tonight, I ran into someone who reminded me of one of Portland’s exceedingly awesome artistic endeavors. Here's how they describe themselves: “MarchFourth Marching Band is a mobile big band spectacular, consisting of saxophones, trombones, trumpets and a drum/percussion corps, anchored by [...]
