Churros
There is something about a churro that is transporting. Maybe it's the fried dough, or the little ridges. Maybe it's the cinnamon/sugar combo, or the bright colors of the churro stands. I don't know, but they make me feel like a little kid...well, more than usual. Or maybe it's eating one in a place like Disneyland that makes it [...]
Dilettante Peppermint Truffles
Because we can never have too many fabulous chocolate treats in our pantry, I picked up a tub (literally) of these delish Dilettante Peppermint Truffles. They are fab-u-lous. Creamy, yummy, minty goodness. But don't just take my word for it. Here's a more detailed description from the Dilettante website: Dilettante flavors milk chocolate [...]
Chile relleno burrito
Take a poblano chili, stuff it, batter it in egg and fry it. That's a chile relleno. Take that relleno and wrap it in a tortilla along with rice, beans, lettuce, tomato, sour cream and guacamole. That's a chile relleno burrito. That's delicious.
Barefoot Pinot Gris
I'm a wine lover. I love good wine. What I love even more? Good wine at a great price. Enter Barefoot wines. They're award-winning. What's more, they're yummy. And you can find them for under $6 a bottle. The Pinot Gris and Savignon Blanc are my favorites. If you're looking for a good everyday wine, try Barefoot. It's awesome.
The Mission
San Diego's North Park neighborhood is home to a number of great eating establishments. Including The Mission. This light, clean diner bustles with activity. Its menu includes fantastic coffee drinks and inventive Latin fusion dishes. This week I tried a vegetarian tamale dish with fried eggs and green salsa. Delicious.
Ginger Candy
Ginger is delicious. Add sucrose and turn it into candy and it's scrumpdillyicous (which means really, really delicious). My favorite ginger candy is made by Prince of Peace. LOVE this stuff. Want to know what's in it? Sucrose, Ginger and Tapioca Starch. That's it. Awesome.
Pie Lab
Every Friday, a woman takes to the streets of Portland with a small, wheeled cart, peddaling her best pie. But she's selling much more than that. Pie lab, an interactive, experimental food experience borders on performance art. Each week has a different theme. Ths week, you could pay $4 for the pie of your choice, or $3 to risk the [...]
Vita Rain
As good as water is for you, sometimes a little flavor helps me drink more of a good thing. I used to drink Vitamin Water. But there were calories involved and it was a bit costly. When I found Vita Rain at Costco with 0 calories and a cost of 45 cents a bottle (about half that of Vitamin Water) I made the switch. I drink a bottle a day [...]
Berry bowl
Summer, to me, means fruit salad. I look forward to melons, cherries, plums and other lovely things. Other lovely things like the “Berry Bowl.” Here’s what’s in the version I’m eating lately: Oats – just raw oats – the kind you’d use to slow cook oatmeal Watermelon – cube it up and toss it in [...]
Sahagun’s Palomitapapa chocolate bar
Talk about an interesting mix of ingredients. I don't think I would have ever thought of mixing these together, but it is delicious! Sahagun is an Oregon chocolatier and their Palomitapapa bar is oh-so-yummy. Dark chocolate, exploded corn, jalapeño and salt. It sounds a bit odd, but when you taste all those ingredients together you'll be [...]
