Wispy clouds
Some of the most amazing art I've ever seen is in the sky. Thin, wispy clouds swirling as if to music. Beautiful. Breathtaking. Awesome.
Begin with Yes
“A short conversation that will change your life forever” by Paul S. Boynton This quick read, in question and answer format, introduces the “Law of Action” and provides concrete examples of how it works, including the story of Dave Bastien and his creation of Musicians for a Cause. According to Paul: The actions we take influence [...]
Music therapy
We always knew it was good for us, now it's official. Music is therapy. Scientists are looking at how music can help relieve pain and depression. From the BBC article: By considering elements of a song's rhythm patterns, melodic range, lyrics or pitch, the team believe music could one day be used to help regulate a patient's [...]
Bret J. Barrett
I really enjoy food places that have local art on the walls. This week, when eating at The Mission, I noticed the bold lines and colors of Bret J. Barrett. Animal legs standing in for car wheels, a dog with a helicopter for a head. His stuff was different. Different in the good way. In the awesome way. His pieces had a clarity [...]
New Orleans scrap metal jewelry
New Orleans metal artist Stefano Velaska was there for Hurricane Katrina and felt her sting. Now he's making art out of the scrap metal he finds in the on-going wake of Katrina's destruction. This mixed metal bracelet is made from New Orleans rubble. It's a wonderful reminder that beauty can come from any tragedy. Stefano sells his New [...]
Corday
I met a woman in an airport. A smiling, curly-haired, bright-souled woman. We grinned at each other a couple of times and then introduced ourselves almost simultaneously. It turns out she was Jennifer Corday, and she was heading to perform at the Cozumel resort that was my destination. I had no idea who she was, but it was immediately [...]
Traveling street music
Street music is awesome. Traveling street music is awesome times 2. Just last Friday Portlanders were blessed with the rhythmic sounds of Ande Marimba, a music group traveling from Santa Fe, New Mexico. They played on an open street corner and people gathered to listen, dance and be uplifted. Awesome. Here's a short video:
Graffiti art
Graffiti art can be amazing. Especially when it's the legal, intended kind. Every time I see this "No Parking" sign on garage in North Portland, it makes me smile.
Car art
This is Michael's car. He drew a moon and some stars on the window, stuck a big note next to them encouraging passers by to add their own images and resting on the door handle below he left orange and white polish. The he left the car, parked, for 4 days. What you see here is just one side of the result. Pretty awesome. This just goes to [...]
Chris Haberman
Chris Haberman is an artist. He paints things. I don't know the first place I saw his work, because it seems like I see it everywhere in Portland. It's in coffee shops, at food carts, on the sides of buildings. It's everywhere. And it's good. At least I think it's good. It's intricate and emotional and raw. Every time I see [...]
