Cozumel Humane Society
For many of us, the last thing we think about when we’re on vacation is volunteering. I mean, sure, there are volunteer tour groups that go off to do good all over the world, but it’s a select few who choose to spend their off-time working for someone else.
I’m on a vacation in Cozumel, and the group I’m with organized a trip to the humane society to do some work for the animals. It was too heartbreaking for me to actually go, but I thought I’d check out the organization and see what it was about. Not surprisingly, it does good things. For instance:
- The society receives around 40 animals each week, and works to place them with homes.
- The society provides information about the treatment of the horses used to pull carriages of tourists around the streets of Cozumel
- The society helps hotels to manage feral colonies of cats; spaying and neutering and adopting them out in some instances.
If you would like to support the society’s work, you can donate online via their website.
